August 13, 1998 - Yevgeny Shabaev dies from heart attack. Roza and other Russian gymnasts attend funeral. According to Viktor Melnikov, Vice President of Dinamo Gym Club, a well known Russian gymnast, Eugeny Shabaev, died from a heart attack on 5 August at 15.20 in Otradnoe district (Moscow). Eugeny's body was discovered in the street by the militia men and delivered to the mortuary. No evidence of violence or any other kind of external effect was detected. A wallet with money and papers beloning to Eugeny were not found. Postmortem examination proved presence of alcohol in minimal quantities in the blood. According to Alexey Voropaev, a famous gymnast and Shabaev's friend, Shabaev on the day of his death [had] received salary and they drank a little champagne. Due to the absence of his passport, parents of the lost(deceased) discovered his body only on 7 August, in one of the Moscow mortuaries. According to the official postmortem statement the death was caused by heart attack. The funeral took place on 11 August at Pokrovskoe cemetry in Moscow.
