1997 Worlds-Lausanne, Switzerland

The "Absolutely Live!" award for best real time live footage

TSR2 (Swiss TV). Complete team, women' s AA, and EF coverage! Just wish the commmentators wouldn't talk so much.

The "Great coaching that has finally paid off" award

Boris Vasilyevich. Nuff said!

The "Most useless administrative procedure" award

The guys who kept vacuuming all the chalk between subdivisions and rotations. Sure it makes the place look good, but chalk is essential for the athletes!

"Most exciting skill series" award

Sergei Fedorchenko with his three exciting release moves on HB.

Elena Produnova for that double front to punch front on her first tumbling pass.

Kui Yuanyuan on balance beam. See 'Lausanne Movies' page!

Saito Yoshiro on rings. Three somersault series in a row!

Individual winner of the "Self attached fuse" award

Mo Huilan. No surprise there.

The "Roza Galieva take me out of the AA competition" award

Alexandra Marinescu. She gets two of these to cover her withdrawal from Atlanta.

"Tacky medals ceremony item" award

The person who kept fading out the national anthems before the song was finished playing. Runner up to title sponsor Samsung for handing out the gifts at the podium and not later.

"It's a strategy thing" award

Svetlana Khorkina. She almost falls on her head on her first EF vault and bails out on her second. The crowd is not pleased, but hey, she has UB coming up later in the evening, where she would win gold! Why risk life and limb for something for something you're not going to win anyway??? Runner up: to all the men who did their double front vaults first and their easier vault second in EF.

The "Absolute worst part of the whole shebang" award

The opening ceremonies. Long and drawn out. And the magician act definitely has to go! Some of the dancing parts were embarrassing! (Also known as the "I paid 20 Swiss francs for that?" award).

The "I completely blew it on my two EF routines" award

Marius Urzica(ROM). He places last on PH and HB. Gotta keep those legs together!!!

The "Don't be afraid to show who you're rooting for" award

The Chinese women's vault judge who kept cheering the Chinese girls whenever they finished a routine. I was astonished!

The "I thought that was the Russian team" award

Germany of course!

The "I looked better with my hair this way instead of at Euromasters" award

Elena Grosheva. I'm glad she changed it back!
